Message from the Mayor
Mayor’s Message for January 2021
Good riddance 2020!? Welcome 2021 and we trust that this year will be more promising than 2020.? Hopefully, we all accept that there will be no quick fixes but let’s hope that each month brings some noticeable improvements and we slowly return to a more normal routine.? It appears that we are near the bottom now, so it is all up from where we are today!
However, we still have another 5 or 6 months of COVID 19 watch and then a more relaxed summer 2021.? Next winter, we are looking forward to seeing our many friends from the US, Australia and New Zealand and lands beyond, we miss you all! The Sun Peaks’ community has done a good job with respect to COVID protocols and the skiing has been very good so far, no deep freeze days yet but Sun Peaks is a little empty without our property owners from out of country and we miss our regular guests who make Sun Peaks an annual winter stop.? Hopefully, the borders might open with some COVID testing procedures before the season ends but it may be too late for our friends ‘down under’.? We look forward to giving you all double hugs next season!
We asked you to tell us about your vision for Sun Peaks future.? Wow, did you respond, some 943 people filled out the questionnaire. I think we will have more than a 50% participation rate, just amazing and we have taken note, you re and you wish to participate.? It is absolutely incredible that so many people took the time to let us know their thoughts.? We had good representation from Sun Peaks’ full-time residents and Sun Peaks property owners who are part-time or seasonal residents.? We will have the results tabulated by late January and make your thoughts and ideas available to everyone.? Thank you all for participating!
A special thanks to the team at the Sun Peaks Health Centre!? With COVID testing three days per week and next day results follow-up, we have been able to augment the serious efforts made by all Sun Peaks businesses to be COVID smart.? We have seen a small number of ses but each time, we had test results overnight and with good contact tracing, we have so far avoided a wide-spread outbreak. Nobody willingly wants to tch COVID and nobody is to be blamed so we must thank those who did test positive for their forthright and responsive actions in alerting their friends and work colleagues so that they could all self-isolate.? So far so good so keep up the good work everyone.
With reluctance, we have accepted the resignation of Rob Bremner, our Chief Administrative Officer over these past eight years.? Congratulations Rob, we are proud that a Sun Peaker n land such an important job in Port Coquitlam.? Rob will be leaving near the end of January, so we are actively searching for a new O.? We have a good team at the Municipal office so there is no need to panic or rush.? We are an attractive community for the right person, and we remain confident that we n fill Rob’s big shoes.? Thank you, Rob for your efforts to make Sun Peaks a better community!
Stay safe, enjoy the slopes and Best Wishes for a better 2021.
